Following the shocking reveal in Gen V Season 2, Episode 7, series creator Eric Kripke has shared what fans can expect from the wider Boys universe. And if you’re hoping for a third season of Gen V, there’s one important thing you’ll need to do.

With The Boys Season 5 expected to wrap up the main storyline next year, big questions remain — including whether Butcher or Homelander will survive. While it’s still unclear if the show will follow the comic book ending, The Boys world is far from finished.

Spinoffs like Gen V and Diabolical have already expanded the universe, and more projects are in the works, including Vought Rising and the newly announced The Boys: Mexico.

For now, the focus is on the Gen V Season 2 finale — and Kripke has teased what’s next, following Episode 7’s big twist. (Spoilers ahead!)

Kripke: Gen V Season 3 Depends on Viewer Support

In a recent chat with The Wrap, Kripke confirmed that plans for a third season of Gen V already exist — but whether it actually happens depends entirely on how many people watch Season 2.

Kripke explained that with Amazon now closely monitoring viewer engagement, the decision to greenlight another season is based on performance right now:

“This is the window where Amazon is watching the numbers,” he said. “We’re excited about our plans for Season 3, but it all hinges on having enough viewers tune in to Season 2.”

The conversation also touched on whether recent leadership shifts at Amazon — namely the appointment of Peter Friedlander as head of global TV — would affect the franchise. Kripke believes things remain steady, saying:

“We’ve always had great support. But this is still a business — we have to deliver results.”

He added:

“So don’t wait a year to watch. Fire up Prime Video and stream it now. If the audience shows up, we’ll get more seasons — that’s also true for Vought Rising.”

Regarding Vought Rising, Kripke said a second season is also being considered, if the response is strong enough.

“We’re getting amazing opportunities, but we have to earn them,” he said. “Hopefully fans continue to show up.”

Could Gen V Continue After The Boys Ends?

Kripke remained vague about how long Gen V could run, but hinted that characters might cross over into other series in the future, just like in The Boys.

“As long as there are fresh stories to tell and new angles to explore, I’m interested,” he said. “Post-The Boys Season 5, this universe becomes even more unpredictable — anything can happen. I’d love to see the Gen V crew thrown into that chaos.”

Kripke also confirmed that some Gen V characters will appear in The Boys Season 5, which is set around six months after Gen V Season 2 ends.

Kripke also commented on the big reveal in Episode 7 — that Cipher, the new dean of Godolkin University, is actually Dr. Thomas Godolkin in disguise.

Fans had been picking up on clues long before the twist dropped, and Kripke admits he was both impressed and a bit annoyed:

“I’m well aware that a lot of the fans online have been picking apart the clues and got on the right scent,” he explained. “They’re very, very smart, and I give them credit. In the same breath, I’m irritated, they figured it out.”

Actor Ethan Slater, who plays Godolkin, spoke to Entertainment Weekly and shared that even he wasn’t told the full twist early on:

“I had been given vague clues,” he said.
“It was like, ‘You’re really prominent towards the last two episodes,’ ‘You have these little moments beforehand,’ and ‘You’re kind of the big bad.’ But they didn’t quite tell me about the twist with Hamish.”

“So the first few episodes that I read, I didn’t know. Then I got on a phone call and Michelle [Fazekas] laid it all out for me. After that phone call, they sent me [Episodes] 7 and 8, and I got to read it.”

He added that the character was a joy to play:

“So incredible and dark and twisted and weird. It was an added layer of awesome to work on the twist.”
